When you’re looking to purchase a new vehicle and you have a growing family, one of the biggest decisions you have to make is whether you want a midsize SUV or a minivan. Both of these are great options for families, but they do have some differences that may help you determine one version over the other.
Seating and Design
When it comes to the midsize SUV, you can comfortably fit 5 people in the car, with two up front and three in the back seat if necessary. If your family is only 3 or 4 people, then this may be enough room for you, along with cargo space in the back.
If you think your family may be growing larger, however, you might want to consider a minivan. Most models comfortably seat two people up front, two people in the next seat, and three in the third row, which isn’t an option on most midsize SUVs.
Minivans are designed with sliding doors, which are great in parking lots and spaces where you do not have a lot of rom. This isn’t true for midsize SUVs that have traditional doors.
Towing and Hauling
It’s safe to say that both of these options have ample cargo room. What they both differ in is their towing and hauling capacity. With a midsize SUV, you have more towing flexibility of trailers with utility vehicles, golf carts, etc. You can also use it to haul items from a home improvement store for DIY projects. A minivan has very limited towing capacity, and cannot carry much beyond the passengers and the cargo within.
